Abstract
1,258,133. Animal feeds. G. A. SERLACHIUS OY. 7 Feb., 1969 [9 Feb., 1968], No. 6865/69. Heading A2B. A method of forming pellets of animal feedstuffs comprises uniformly mixing finely divided feed ingredients and a binder and forming the mixture into pellets, the binder being a liquid or dried mash produced by cultivating yeast or other fungi microorganisms on a wood sulphite spent liquor (e.g. ammonium, magnesium or calcium based wood sulphite spent liquors or mixtures thereof) and having a microorganism content of 4-75% by wt., based on the mash solids content and the mixture containing at least 3/4% (e.g. 3/4- 12%) by wt. of solids contents, of mash. The microorganism may be Torula utilis, Candida tropicalis, Aspergillus niger or a species of Saccharomyces. The feed may comprise hay, grass or alfalfa. The feed mixture may be subjected to steaming prior to forming the pellets.
