Abstract

1,217,274. Pelletizing copper concentrates. HEAD WRIGHTSON & CO. Ltd. 13 May, 1969 [24 May, 1968], No. 24915/68. Heading C1A. Fluxed, hard pellets of sulphidic copper concentrates are made in a process which comprises forming a mixture of a major proportion of finely divided sulphidic copper concentrates, a minor proportion of limestone and sufficient organic residual product of the chemical separation of the cellulosic content from vegetable material to provide the pellets after drying with adequate hardness to withstand handling during transportation, preferably about 1% by dry weight, adjusting if necessary the moisture content of the mixture to give satisfactory balling, balling the mixture and drying the resulting balls or pellets. " Residual products " specified are spent sulphite liquor, or a product of high lignin content obtained therefrom, molasses, or corn syrup. The amount of limestone present is preferably 3-12% by weight. The mixture may also contain powdered coal.
