Abstract

1,256,889. Retractable posts; road barriers. E. W. BORER and S. N. HOUSEGO [trading as BORER ENG. CO.] 23 May, 1969 [20 June; 1968], No. 29345/68. Headings E1B and E1G. A telescopically retractable post for use in car parks, or for supporting barrier chains or bars, comprises an outer tube 1, Fig. 1, buried in the ground 11, an inner tube 8 having a top cap 10, and a locking device such as a bayonet connection 13-14, the tube 8 sliding in an intermediate sleeve 7 which is removably secured to the outer tube 1 to allow complete removal and replacement of the tube 8 in the event of damage. As shown the sleeve 7 provides the bayonet slot 14 engaged by the ends of a diametral pin 13 protruding from the tube 8, the cap 10 has a hole 12 for a lifting tool, and tube 8 has a hole 15 for a barrier chain or bar. In a modification, Fig. 3, a longitudinal locking bar 23 pivoted at 24 within the inner tube 21 has a bottom projection 25 engageable with holes in the sleeve 7 and an offset top lug 26 which can protrude to receive a barrier chain or a padlock.
