Abstract

1,256,843. Gear grinding. MAAG GEAR WHEEL & MACHINE CO. Ltd. 15 May, 1970 [3 June, 1969], No. 23592/70. Heading B3K. In a gear grinding machine a helical gear is produced by grinding discs 4, 5, the gear being mounted on a spindle 9 carried by a generating slide 6, a rolling pitch block 10 is fitted to the spindle and has tapes 11, 12, connected thereto which pass over idler pulleys 13, 14, carried by a tape stand 15, and are connected to a bracket 34 on a secondary slide 18, both slides 6 and 18 being movable relative to each other and - at right angles to the axis of spindle 9. Slide 6 is movable along guides 31 formed on a carriage 3 movable along guides 1 on a bed 30. Mounted on slide 6 is a generating head 7, and a tailstock 8, and slide 6 is movable with stand 15 in a direction normal to the axis of spindle 9. A block 16 attached to stand 15 slides in an adjustable guide 17. Slide 18 is slidable along guideways 35 in slide 6, by a crank and adjustable crank pin 20, 37, the crank being connected to a shaft 21 which carries a second crank and adjustable crank pin 22, 39, which moves slide 6 along guides 31, along with stand 15. In operation, the cranks move slides 18 and 6 relative to each other. Carriage 3 is moved to the left due to the angle of guide 17, so that the workpiece moves past the grinding wheels 4, 5, and block 10 is rotated by the tapes 11, 12, thus rotating shaft 9 and workpiece 2 so as to produce teeth with the required helix angle.
