Abstract

1,256,728. Suction cleaners. RECKITT & COLMAN PRODUCTS Ltd. June 26, 1970 [July 1, 1969], No.33231/69. Heading A4F. A suction cleaner which may be used for removing cleaning liquid from floors and including a suction unit adapted to rest on an open top receptacle 27 for collecting dust or liquid, comprises a motor 9 driving a fan in a housing 8 located in central apertures in dish-shaped members 1, 4 of plastics material, and with their edges in engagement to form a compartment 24 beneath a compartment 20 formed between the member 4 and a cover member 17. Cooling air for the motor 9 is drawn by a further fan therethrough through parts 22 provided by undulations in the member 17 or in a plate 21 covering a central aperture 16 in the latter. The cooling air is discharged from the compartment 20 through parts 18 provided by undulations in either of the members 4, 17. Air exhausted by the suction fan passes into the compartment 24, and leaves the latter through downwardly directed peripheral apertures 25. When the apparatus is used for dust collection the dust laden air is drawn into the receptacle 27 through an inlet pipe 42 having a T-piece outlet to which a dust bag is attached, and is drawn into the fan housing 8 via an annular glass fibre filter 40 and a polyethylene screen 41. When liquid is collected the dust bag is removed, and to prevent liquid being drawn into the fan housing 8 a valve member 36 is actuated by a float 35 to close the inlet to the housing 8 when the liquid in the receptacle 27 reaches a predetermined level.
