Abstract
1,256,304. Transducers; seismic prospecting. INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS. 13 Feb., 1969 [14 Feb., 1968], No. 7955/69. Headings H4D and H4J. [Also in Division G1] Apparatus for use on land to measure pressure waves emanating from the ground comprises a flexible housing 2 with a wall, adapted to be placed in close contact with the ground, and a pressure-sensitive transducer 1 within the housing, the housing being filled with a liquid 3 of low viscosity e.g. oil. The housing may be laid on the ground or fitted into a hole dug in the ground. A plurality of transducers C 1 , C 2 ... C n connected to one another and to a signal recording device may be contained in an elongated housing 10. The housing may have a ground-engaging flexible membrane secured to a semi-cylindrical corrugated part, Fig. 3 (not shown), sufficiently flexible to be reeled on a winch placed on a vehicle. The elongated housing 10, Fig. 4, is made of flexible material reinforced with hoops 11. The transducer may be of variable inductance or reluctance type either piezoelectric or magnetostrictive and used as geophones in seismic prospecting.
