Abstract

1,256,279 Multiple pack tray. HAMAC-HANSELA G.m.b.H. 26 March, 1969 [27 March, 1968], No. 15806/69. Heading B8C. A package assembly comprises a plurality of packages 4, each comprising a deep-drawn container 6 to a flange 5 whereof is heat sealed a lid 7 and each being located within an opening 3 of a tray 2 e.g. of cardboard coated with heat sealable material, with the flanges 5, or alternatively the lids 7 if these project beyond the flanges 5, heat sealed to the contacting surface of the tray. A pair of opposite sides of the tray 2 are folded to form feet 8 for support on an underlying tray 2 when a plurality are stacked in a box. Removal of each package 4 from a tray 2 is facilitated by a discontinuous tack-weld of the flange 5 to the tray 2, when this is only partially coated with a heat sealable layer; by the lid 7 projecting beyond the flange 5 at only a few places at which it is sealed to the tray 2; or by perforated or weakening lines in the tray 2 between the tray openings 3. The packages are assembled on a conveyer comprising plates 10 on which trays 2 are sequentially positioned with each tray opening 3 in register with a plate aperture 11, into which containers 6 are inserted from a device 12 at a feed station. At further stations the containers 6 are filled by a device 13, and the lids 7 are applied and sealed on to the flanges 5 by pressure dies 14 and heat, which also effects sealing of the flanges 5 to the tray 2.
