Abstract

1,256,260. Disazo pigments containing amido groups. CIBA GEIGY A.G. 26 Nov., 1969 [30 Nov., 1968], No. 57933/69. Heading C4P. [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] Novel disazo pigments of the formula (wherein R 1 is an arylene residue with ortho to the azo group, R 2 is a naphthalene residue with the azo, OH and amido groups in the 1-, 2- and 3-positions respectively, R 3 is an aromatic residue and R 4 is H or an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl or heterocyclic residue) are prepared by condensing one mole of an arylenediamine H 2 N-R 3 -NH 2 with 2 moles of an appropriately substituted naphthoic acid halide. The pigments are used for pigmenting high M.W. organic material. Halide starting materials of the formula are prepared by halogenation of the corresponding carboxylic acids, these in turn being prepared by heating a triazinone of the formula with a 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid.
