Abstract
1,256,189. Making driving belts. SEMPERIT A.G. 19 Feb., 1970 [20 Feb., 1969], No. 7995/70. Heading F2Q. A process of vulcanizing an endless driving belt 4 while it is continuously moved longitudinally on a single machine comprises the steps of part-vulcanizing the belt in an unstressed condition, completing vulcanization with the belt in a stretched condition, and cooling it while maintaining the stretched condition. The first and second steps are preferably at the same temperature and of the same duration. The belt passes round rotatable drums 3, 19 one (3) or both of which is/are heatable and coolable by fluids passed therethrough. A pressing strap 14 or pressing rollers urge the belt against the drum 3 to improve heat transfer. Drum 19 is mounted on a cradle 21 movable towards and away from the drum 3. Belt stretching at the first/second step transition is progressive during a complete circuit of the belt. Additional heating/cooling means external to the drums may be used.
