Abstract
1,255,989. Polyurethane coating. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 28 Aug., 1970 [24 Oct., 1969], No. 52222%69. Heading B2E. [Also in Division C3] Surfaces such as asbestos, bitumen, concrete and wood may be coated with surfacing composition which is prepared by mixing together a polyether or polyester polyol having a hydroxyl value of not less than 200 milligram of KOH per gram, a polyisocyanate, a filler and an aromatic component having a viscosity of 5.5 to 13 cs at 60C and which is an aromatic petroleum distillate and/or an aromatic extract of a petroleum distillate. Calcined china clay is the preferred filler, many others being listed. Examples of aromatic petroleum distillates are a kerosine extract having about 74% by weight of aromatic compounds and a light catalytically cracked cycle oil. An example of an aromatic extract of a petroleum distillate is an aromatic extract of a lubricating oil. Catalysts, e.g. organotin compounds and other additives, e.g. bitumens and water scavengers, e.g. zeolites may be included in the reaction mixtures. The compositions are most suitable for road coating purposes. Inert particles, such as calcined bauxite particles, may be applied to the upper surface of a surface composition before it hardens.
