Abstract
1,255,699. Welding by pressure. FRIED. KRUPP G.m.b.H. 21 March, 1969 [22 March, 1968], No. 15034/69. Heading B3R. In explosive bonding a base sheet with a cladding sheet, the cladding sheet is spaced from the base sheet and a layer of explosive is applied to the cladding sheet and detonated at one end of the cladding sheet, the layer consisting of adjoining sections of different explosives such that the blast contour angle decreases from section to section from the detonation end of the cladding sheet. A cladding sheet 2 is arranged at an angle to the base sheet 1 and a number of different explosives 4 of decreasing length from the detonation point 5 are applied on the cladding sheet with an intervening protective layer 3. The blast contour angle of the gas from each explosive decreases from the detonator 5. In a modification with the cladding and base sheets parallel the explosives are separated by inclined members so that the explosives overlap one another. The separating members may be perforated and may be removed before detonation or may be corrugated or arcuate.
