Abstract

1,255,001. Electrographic tablet. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. Dec.6, 1968 [Sept. 6, 1967], No.31243/67. Heading G1N. An electrographic tablet comprises a lamine of resistive material 11 and four elongated resistive electrodes 14-17, connected in series approximately in the form of a rectangle and maintained in electrical contact with the lamina, each electrode having one or more terminals connected thereto and each pair of opposite electrodes arranged to produce in the lamina a substantially uniform potential gradient when energized, each pair of opposed electrodes converging towards one another over parts of the lengths thereof so that the non-uniformity of the potential gradient in the lamina, caused by charges of potential along the energized electrodes, is reduced. A squarewave generator 19 and phase splitter 20 produces two pulse trains in anti-phase which are fed through drivers 21, 22 to corners I, III of the rectangle to drive them in alternation at V volts and earth potential, the other corners II, IV being maintained continuously at V volts and earth. Thus a probe 23 in contact with the lamina is at potentials representative alternately of its x and y co-ordinates with corner IV as origin, which potentials are fed to respective terminals 30, 31 by an emitter follower and appropriate ones of gates 26, 27 and filters 28, 29. The electrodes are so shaped that for any pair of directly opposed points on opposite pairs of electrodes the sum of the resistance across the lamina between the points and the resistance of the lengths of electrode between each point and the nearest adjacent terminal is substantially a constant.
