Abstract

1,254,837. Dry cleaning process. F. W. MEANS & CO. 19 May, 1970, No. 24092/70. Heading D1P. A process for cleaning soiled textile articles, comprises contacting the soiled articles with a petroleum mineral oil, agitating the oil and removing the excess oil from the cleaned articles. The soiled textile articles may be soiled oil-impregnated cleaning utensils and the process temperature may be 60-250‹F., 20-40% by weight petroleum mineral oil being left on the cleaned oil impregnated utensil. The used oil is continually removed and clean oil added, the former being cleaned and recycled. The oils have a viscosity of 38-60 SUS at 210‹F and 100-800 SUS at 100‹F. Excess oil can be removed from the article by centrifuging and if desired essentially all of the oil is removed by contacting the article with a dry cleaning solvent selected from hydrocarbons halogenated hydrocarbons or mixtures thereof. The Specification includes a flow diagram for a continuous process.
