Abstract

Sights.-Consists of a telescope sight, for use against moving targets such as aeroplanes, having provision for adjusting the sighting-index in accordance with the direction of motion of the target. The telescope is rotatable about its longitudinal axis, and is provided with a sighting-index movable by an external lever which is set by the observer parallel to the direction of motion of the target, the combined angular movement of the lever and the telescope enabling the index to be brought into any position. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the index c is in the shape of an aeroplane and projects radially from a stem d adapted to be rotated by a lever e which is parallel to the index c. The index is set and the telescope rotated by a single movement of the lever e. Sighting is effected by laying the extremity or other suitable part of the index on the target. Any suitable mounting for the telescope may be provided, such mounting being constructed, when for use on aircraft, to compensate for the motion of the attacking machine. To compensate for the speed of the target, the index can be mounted on a slide so that it can be adjusted in the direction of its length to or from its axis of rotation. In the modification shown in Figs. 3 and 4, cross-wires c are employed mounted in a frame f adapted to be moved laterally by an eccentric stud g in a disk i rotated by the lever e. To enable the eccentricity of the stud g to be adjusted, to compensate for the speed of the target, it is carried by a slide i' having a second stud j engaging a spiral groove in a rotary head k.
