A tool bit for a percussive drill comprises a shank and a sleeve fast thereon, the shank and sleeve defining therebetween one or more chambers, the or each chamber having therein a vibration absorbing material. As illustrated the tool has chambers 11, 12 which are filled via holes 14, 15, with sand or a polymeric material which is injection moulded, the holes being plugged after filling. The material may alternatively comprise a strip of polymeric material which is wound round the tool shank prior to placing of the sleeve over the tool shank. The sleeve may be of mild steel, and the tool shank of hard steel in which case the sleeve is shrunk on to the tool shank. Alternatively the sleeve may be of a manganese-copper alloy. The sleeve may be ease-hardened or where the sleeve merges with the working tip (Fig. 3, not shown) the outer surfaces of the tool tip and sleeve are hardened by heating and quenching. Collars 7, 13 may be integral with or separate from but connected to the sleeve 3 and shankre spectively. Alternatively the chambers may be divided by a single collar integral with or connected to the tool shank.
