Abstract

1,254,376. Automatic voltage control. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. March 21, 1969 [April 1, 1968(2)], Nos. 14028/69 and 14029/69. Heading G3R. A supply system for a road vehicle comprises a permanent magnet alternator having windings 23, 24 and diodes 25, 26 supplying to lines 11, 12 half-wave rectified outputs 180 degrees out of phase, a battery 13 and a voltage regulator comprising members 14-22, the regulator controlling thyristors 27, 28 so that they are simultaneously fired when the line voltage exceeds a predetermined value to short-circuit the alternator output. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) the thyristors are replaced by a single triac across one winding which is closely coupled to the other winding to prevent the latter providing an output when the triac is conducting. A pair of triacs may be used in this modification. A single winding arrangement is also envisaged.
