Abstract

1,253,887. Electro-photographic processes. RANK ZEROX Ltd. March 3, 1969 [March 6, 1968], No.11208/69. Heading G2H. A method of improving reproduction of large solid areas and continuous tone areas, comprises additionally projecting a half-tone pattern on to a continuously moving xerographic surface using a strip lens and a continuous web carrying the pattern. In one embodiment, an endless band 45 Fig.1 carrying a half-tone pattern of transparent and opaque areas is fed between rollers 47 and 48 at a linear speed equal to the peripheral speed of the drum 20. A lamp 41 and strip lens 44 project the half-tone pattern on to the drum surface at a slit 40. The strips lens 44 has a plurality of lens 74, 76 and 78. Field stops 81 and aperture stops 85 are included to provide a uniformly illuminated continuous image across the drum 20 in the manner described in Specification No.1,200, 383.
