Abstract

1,253,658. Roller conveyers. DEXION Ltd. 13 May, 1969 [14 May, 1968], No. 22830/68. Heading B8A. A unit for diverting an article or container from a roller conveyer comprises a diverting roller 1 supported by a bracket 5 rotatably mounted on an annular nylon pad 17. The bracket is spring-urged to the position shown in Fig. 1, but may be rotated through 90 degrees by energization of an electromagnet 23. The roller is driven via bevel gears 2, 6, a vertical shaft 7 and part of a pulley 14 driven by a belt 15, the other part of the pulley being used to drive a further unit if required. Instead of the electromagnet 23, pneumatic means may be used to turn the bracket 5 and control may be manual or automatic. The roller may have a tyre. In Fig. 3 a main conveyer comprises a channel 20 with diverting rollers 1 and freely rotatable rollers 31, 31<SP>1</SP>. Lateral roller-ways having free rollers 32, 35 receive articles diverted from the main conveyer. The vertical shaft carrying one of the bevel gears may be individually driven by an air turbine or electric motor. All the rollers of the Fig. 3 system may be driven and, instead of the gear drive, a diverting roller may be driven frictionally by a continuous belt.
