1,253,633. Coating. INVENTA A.G. FUR FORSCHUNG UND PATENTVERWERTUNG ZURICH. 16 March, 1970 [17 March, 1969], No. 12438/70. Heading B2E. [Also in Division C3] Steel sheets are coated with a composition C comprising a particulate heat-curable product obtained by melt-mixing one or more epoxy resins E with one or more random ternary copolymers T of nylons 6, 6/6, and 12. T may melt at 110-150‹C and have waterabsorbing capacity of 0.5-5% wt at 20‹C and relative air humidity of 65%; # rel may be 1-3-1.6 (0-5% soln in m-cresol at 20‹C). T may contain, by wt, the structural units of nylon 6, 10-60%; nylon 6/6, 10-50% and nylon 12, 10-70%. E may melt at 60- 135‹C. In examples, E is a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A. C may contain 30-90% wt E and 10-70% wt T. Also present in C may be, as catalyst, inorganic or organic basic material or a Lewis acid, and pigment, e.g. rutile TiO 2 dyes, fillers, or fluxing or thixotropicity agents. The particle size of C may be 70-300 Ám. C may be applied by the fluidized-bed, electrostatic, spraying and flocking, stafluid, mist-chamber, or flame-spraying processes. The steel sheets may be preheated to 180-200‹C before coating and held at 180‹C for 20 minutes after coating for hardening of C. Coating thickness may be 70-350 Ám.
