Abstract

1,253,534. Polymer solutions. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 17 Jan., 1969 [29 April, 1968], No. 20215/68. Heading C3R. Polymer solutions are prepared by carrying out the polymer-forming reaction initially in the presence of only a portion of the total solvent to be used, until the viscosity of the solution has risen to a value approximating to or in excess of that finally desired, and thereafter continuously adding the remainder of the solvent whilst reaction is still proceeding and whilst maintaining the viscosity at or near the finally desired value. The process can be applied to the manufacture of solutions of addition or condensation polymers, particularly polyurethanes. Uses.-Adhesives and coatings on fabrics.
