Abstract

1,253,066. Pickling. E. W. MULCAHY. Sept.24, 1969 [Nov.26, 1968; Jan.11, 1969], No. 55957/68. Heading C7E. Elongated lengths of metal are pickled by passing them through a trough having two substantially open ends, continuously introducing a pickling liquid to the trough, collecting liquid spilling from the trough, and recirculating the liquid. Strips of metal 8 pass along trough 1 lined with acid resistant brick or rubber, over skids 18 Fig. 1 (not shown) of granite or silicon iron. Overflow acid from the end(s) of the trough passes into vessel 4 heated by steam coils 7, and is lifted by air pumps 10 into trough 9 whence it returns, with make-up acid if necessary, to tank 1, whilst noxious fumes are removed via 11 and 12 to a scrubber.
