1,252,951. Retractive switches; switch cases. G.E.C. INSTALLATION EQUIPMENT (WALSALL) Ltd. 3 April, 1970 [17 April, 1969], No. 19608/69. Heading H1N. In order to provide a compact assembly a housing to accommodate two independently operable switches in separate compartments is provided with a removable barrier which can be inserted to form the two compartments and which itself forms part of the guide means for an axially slidable part of each switch. Fixed contacts such as 7, 8, 9, 10 are carried on terminal posts such as 19, 20, 31, 32 which are moulded into a housing body part 1 made of a glass fibre reinforced polyester resin compound, and grooves 41, 61 and 62, 63 in opposed pairs are formed in the interior. A removable barrier member 6, of similar material, fits in grooves 62, 63, as shown in Fig. 2, after the switch parts have been placed in position. Channels 42 in member 6 opposite the grooves 41 and 61 guide projecting portions 39, 40 of movable contactcarrying members 38 which are slidable against the action of springs 50 by means of stainless steel spindles 53 slidable in bronze bushes 52 moulded into a cover 2. Bridging contact members 11 and 12 are mounted in an aperture 43 in each member 38 with springs 44 therebetween. Instead of the change-over system shown, simple make or break arrangements may be provided. Bolts 3 serve to secure cover 2 and holes 5 are for mounting the assembly.
