Abstract

1,252,667. Microscope stages. INCENTIVE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT A. B. Jan.17, 1969, No. 2994/69. Heading G2J. A stage assembly for optical instruments comprises a stage 2, movable in two orthogonal directions X and Y each at right angles to the optical axis 1 of the instrument, supported on a base 5 by rods 6, 7 and 8 pivotally screwed to both the base and stage. Each rod has a rigid portion (11), Fig. 2, (not shown), portions (10) of reduced diameter at either end of the rigid portions which act as springs, and threaded end portions (9); rods 7 and 8 are screwed to brackets 12 and 13, and to the lower face of the stage, rod 6 is screwed to the upper face of the stage and a beam 14 supported by columns 15 and 16 fixed to the base. Displacement rods 21 and 22, and 17, similar to the above, are provided, rods 21, 22 are screwed to bosses 23, 24 and rod 17 to a boss 18 respectively. Rods 21 and 22 are screwed at their other ends to a lever 25, and rod 17 to a lever 19, each lever being joined to the base by a plate spring 20. Movement of the levers causes movement in the appropriate X or Y direction, during which movement along the optical axis is prevented by the support rods 6, 7 and 8. Motors 26 and 27 may be connected to lever arms 25a and 19a of the levers 25 and 19 to provide controlled movement of the stage. The support rods may all be screwed to the same face of the stage.
