Composition fuel.-A porous fuel is made by moulding, under the smallest pressure necessary to obtain a coherent block, a mixture of small coal, anthracite duff, and like fuel and pitch, solidified petroleum, and like binding material, together with water. The mixture is moulded in an ordinary press for producing blocks, or in an extrusion press producing bars which are then cut up into blocks. The blocks are passed through a dryer in which a temperature of from 600 to 650‹ F. is maintained to drive off the water and melt the binding-material which soaks into the material of the blocks. In this way, the water serves only as a temporary binder and, in the finished fuel blocks, air is stated to take the place of the eliminated water. Washery settlings, such as Powell Duffryn settlings already containing water, may be used with the bituminous binder.
