1,252,129. Controlling fuel injection photoelectrically. SOC DES PROCEDES MODERNES D'INJECTION SOPROMI. Nov. 11, 1968 [Nov. 27, 1967], No.53388/ 68. Heading G1A. [Also in Division F1] The duration of fuel injection to an internal combustion engine is controlled by rectangular pulses produced by a frequency discriminator receiving pulses from a pulse generator dependent upon engine speed and throttle setting. The pulse generator comprises a transparent cylinder 1 with opaque lines 3 thereon driven by a shaft 4 from the engine. A light or infrared source 18 and a detector 19 are linked to the accelerator to co-operate with different axial points on cylinder 1 for different accelerator settings. The frequency discriminator provides an output so long as the frequency of the pulses from detector 19 is above a threshold level so, to provide constant injection periods independently of speed, the spacing of lines 3 would have to increase hyperbolicly, but in practice empirical deviations are made from this law to achieve optimum operation. A graphical method of constructing the lines 3 using desired injection duration/speed curves is described.
