Abstract

125,173. Tacchi, P. G. March 5, 1918. Two-stroke-cycle engines; driving-gear.-Engine units, each of which comprises one or more cylinders containing oppositely-moving pistons connected to a pair of geared crank-shafts, are arranged around and parallel to a central driving shaft to which the crank-shafts are geared. The engine unit shown in Fig. 1 comprises two cylinders with pistons B, B<1> which control exhaust ports F and air and combustible mixture admission ports G H respectivelv. The ports F open in advance of the air inlet ports G to which a compressed scavenging charge is delivered from a crank chamber D, combustible mixture being compressed in a crank chamber D<1>. The admission ports to the crank chambers are controlled by rotating disk valves J<1>. Air may be supplied to the crank casings D under pressure, and when compressing air in the crank chambers D<1>, fuel may either be injected into the cylinders direct or through the ports H. An engine is described in which three engine units, each comprising three horizontal cylinders, are disposed radially about a central driving-shaft.
