In a tank for a road tanker having glass fibre insulating mats 8a, 8b disposed between a metal container 1 and an external covering 11 of synthetic resin, a thin metal layer 10 provided between the insulating mats 8a, 8b and the covering 11 makes contact through metal retaining rings 7 and metal spacers 6 with the container 1 to avoid electrostatic charging of the covering 11. The metal layer 10 may be a sprayed-on coating of aluminium bronze or a layer of aluminium foil applied to the covering 11 when the resin is soft. The foil may be applied by a roller having an embossed surface or pins so that the foil is formed with tears or holes through which the resin penetrates to firmly secure the foil.
