Abstract

1,251,570. Vinyl ester polymers. BORDEN Inc. 15 Dec., 1969 [16 Dec., 1968], No. 61013/69. Heading C3P. One or more vinyl esters are polymerized in the presence of from 0.05% to 1% by weight based on the vinyl ester of a chain transfer agent and in the presence of from 0.05 to 2% by weight based on the vinyl ester monomer of a conditioning agent which is a normal olefin having from 10 to 20 carbon atoms. In the examples vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, vinyl formate and vinyl butyrate are polymerized in the presence of water, polyvinyl alcohol, hydroquinone, perchloroethylene, hexadecene-1, octadecene-1, tetradecene-1, acetaldehyde and benzoyl peroxide and the resulting polymers hydrolysed using alkaline methanol.
