Abstract

1,250,864. Venetian blinds. ALCAN RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd. 26 Feb., 1970 [6 March, 1969], No. 9486/70. Heading E1J. In a venetian blind assembly a rotatable head tube 10 is supported between a pair of stationary brackets 12, 14 and is rotated by a worm gear mechanism 62 operable by pull cords and located at one of the brackets, viz. 12 provided with a projection 88 to function as an abutment for stops 84 on the tube 10 to limit the rotation of the tube 10, which determines the tilt of the slats 112 carried on ladder tapes 116, and the slats are held in any desired vertical position by means of a cord lock 36 which has a mounting pintle 32 extending from the housing 22 and engaged by a slot on the other bracket 14. The pintle has in fact two slots (33, 35 Fig. 4) to adapt it to variations in the spacing of the brackets and is of rectangular section Fig. 3 so that it can slide transversely into a slot 52 in the bracket 14 and on the first movement of the tilt cord or mechanism 62, it rotates into the inclined slot 58 to retain it in the bracket 14. The coupling of the tube 10 to the tilt mechanism 62 is described in detail. Within the housing 22 is a fixed cord lock tube 34 and a cord lock pin 36 and between them pass the lift cords 38, 38a and into the tube 10 to arcuate slots 106, 108 through which they pass through holes in the slats to the bottom slat 100 to which they are clamped. The pin 36 is guided for movement toward and away from the tube 34 by a pair of parts 40, 42 Fig. 8 formed in the housing 22 and the pin has axial ribs 48 to grip the cords, the lock being operated by pressure of the cords 38, 38a on the pin, due to the weight of the slats.
