Liquid polish compositions comprise an aqueous dispersion containing (a) a polyligand emulsion copolymer which is capable of being cross-linked by polyvalent metal ions, (b) polyvalent metal ions for cross-linking the copolymer (a), (c) an emulsified wax and/or an alkalisoluble resin, and (d) a di-(C 6 -C 9 alkyl) sulphosuccinate surface-active agent. Copolymers (a) generally include a predominant amount of acrylic components, e.g. (meth)acrylate esters, acrylic or methacrylic acid, or itaconic acid; they may also include non-acrylic components such as styrene. Suitable metal ions (b) include those of Al, Ba, Mg, Ca, Sr, Zr or Zn, preferably the latter. Waxes which can be used for component (c) include carnauba waxes, oxidized microcrystalline paraffin waxes, oxidized Fischer-Tropsch waxes, Montan waxes, polyethylene or oxidized polyethylene waxes, and oxidized synthetic wax esters. Suitable alkalisoluble resins (c) include shellac, rosin polyesters, maleic rosin esters, styrene-maleic anhydride copolymers, and thermoplastic polyester resins. In addition to component (d), the compositions may also include small amounts of conventional surface-active agents. Other optional components include permanent plasticizers such as dibutyl phthalate, tributyl phosphate and tributoxyethyl phosphate; fugitive plasticizers (coalescing agents) such as ethylene or diethylene glycol and monoalkyl ethers thereof; levelling aids such as N-ethyl-N-perfluorooctane-sulphonyl glycine; preservatives such as formaldehyde; low temperature stabilizers; and perfumes.
