Abstract
1,250,575. Control of A.C. motor. BELLING & CO. Ltd. 3 June, 1970 [4 June, 1969], No. 28206/69. Heading H2J. A shaded pole induction motor in a ducted air system is supplied with an asymmetrical waveform by means of a diode D in parallel with a resistor R B , for slow speed control. The resistances in the circuit may be variable. When thermostat switch A closes, terminal 1 is connected to either terminal 2, 3 or 4 dependent on the setting of the switch S, in the former two cases the motor receiving a symmetrical supply. When switch A opens, the motor receives an asymmetrical supply via R A . Terminals 5 and 6 are always interconnected. For a heating system, closure of switch A leads to high speed operation, but for cooling, closure of switch A may cause the motor to be connected in a low speed mode of operation. In the heating mode, storage heaters are connected to the supply, and a " summer/winter " changeover switch may be provided to reverse the function of switch A as above. A thermostat switch fitted with an accelerator heater may be used in which case it is necessary that the switch A is operated by a relay coil controlled by the thermostat switch.
