Abstract
125,023. Blondeau, G. J. E. Oct. 17, 1918. Tanks. - Consists in means for ensuring an uninterrupted flow of petrol to aeronautical engines during excessive inclinations of the aircraft when changing altitude. The means may be applied to existing fuel tanks. The usual auxiliary tank b, which, in the present instance, is situated along the fore and aft axis of the aircraft, is fitted below the bottom plate c of the main tank a, which is provided with a transverse diaphragm d. From opposite sides of the diaphragm and as near thereto as possible, outlet pipes e, e<1> lead in the auxiliary chamber b to a chamber f, which contains a ball valve h and the wall of which is perforated at g. If the system shown in Fig. 1 is tilted anti-clockwise, the fuel to the right of the diaphragm will well up against the diaphragm and flow through e', g, the conduit e being closed by the valve h. Separate tanks T<1>, T<2> may be employed. In the modification shown in Fig. 4. the ends of the spindle-shaped tank k are so connected to the valve chamber f<1> that the ball valve h<1> closes the conduit leading to the higher end of the tank. The fuel in this case is forced by air or gas under pressure.
