Abstract

1,250,238. Dyeing polyolefins. CIBA-GEIGY A.G. 19 March, 1969 [19 March 1968], No. 14373/69. Heading D1B. Polyolefin fibres are continuously dyed by impregnating, printing or padding with a solution of at least one disperse dyestuff free of sulphonic or carboxylic acid groups and which melts at 180‹C or below in an organic solvent which remains inert to the fibres at the dyeing temperature followed by evaporating the solvent and a heat fixation at a temperature below the softening point of the fibres, the dye being either an azo dye or an anthraquinone dye free of phenoxy or alkylphenoxy groups. The dye preferably melts at 160‹C or below ,and wetting and dispersing agents may be present, chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons, low molecular fatty acid amides, ethylene carbonate and butyrolactone are used as solvents polypropylene fibres being dyed.
