Abstract
1,249,876. Implement hitch; harvesters. KARL MENGELE & SOHNE MASCHINENFABRIK U EISENGIESSEREI. 18 Oct., 1968 [18 Oct., 1967; 21 Dec., 1967; 26 Jan., 1968; 27 Jan., 1968; 1 Feb., 1968; 29 April, 1968; 3 May, 1968; 10 Aug., 1968], No. 49593/68. Headings A1F and A1P. Means for coupling an implement 11, e.g. a chaff cutter or row harvester, to a tractor 1 comprises an implement hitch including a connecting arm 7 and a frame 10 for attachment between the implement 11 and the tractor 1, the connecting arm 7 mounting a transmission shaft 15 for linking the tractor's p.t.o. to the implement 11 through mitre-wheel gearing 14. In a first typical embodiment, Fig. 1, the arm 7 depends from a three point linkage 2-6. A chaff cutter 11 having a socket 16 with a guide 17 engages a flange on the arm 7, and a spring-thrown clutch 20 controlled by a cableoperated lever 21 transmits the drive. Alternatively, Fig. 3 (not shown), the clutch may be replaced by gear wheels (25), (26) which interlock on attaching the implement 11, or a universally jointed drive shaft may be provided outside the arm 7, Fig. 5 (not shown). The implement 11 may have a bifurcated runon coupling 36 with a spring catch 38 for engaging the arm 7, Fig. 6 (not shown). In a second typical embodiment, Fig. 7, the connecting arm 7 is formed from sections 12'-14' containing a universal joint drive shaft 21' geared to a p.t.o. connection 18', and is suspended from a normal three point linkage. Alternatively, Fig. 13, the arm 7 may be supported on the two lower links 3, with a forward supporting arm comprising relatively adjustable arm portions 322, 323 linking the implement 11 to a traction jaw 323' at the front of the tractor 1. In a further typical embodiment, Fig. 19, the connecting arm 7 is pivotally suspended from the lower lift links 508, 509, which are held rigid. A hydraulic winch (516), Figs. 20, 22 (not shown), is operable by means of a hand pump (517) to raise or lower a crank arm 512, fixed to the arm 7, for adjusting the implement 11, e.g. between operative and transport positions. Additional connecting arm sections 310, Fig. 13, may be inserted to facilitate connection to different tractor sizes, the transmission shaft being telescopic, and drive may be taken, e.g. to a stationary elevator blower (134) positioned near the tractor 1 without being attached thereto, Fig. 9 (not shown). Further, Fig. 24, a carrying wheel 607 urged downwardly by a spring 611 may be provided on the hitch to stabilize the implement when raised in transport.
