Abstract
1,249,856. Boots &c. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 20 Dec., 1968 [21 Dec., 1967], No. 58241/67. Heading A3B. A lasting machine includes a shoe support (not shown), a pair of wipers 10 which advance and close about a focal point F, the closing movement of the wipers 10 being adjustable relative to their advancing movement, and a wiper-trimmer device comprising a wiper member 42 which fills the gap between the rear edges 54 of the wipers 10 and a cutting edge 46 for trimming surplus upper material gathered between the wipers 10. As described the wiper-trimmer device is incorporated in a toe lasting machine of the type described in Specification No. 1,086,198. The cutter 44 and wiper member 42 are replaceably mounted on a block 38 on the piston rod 26 of a piston (not shown) housed in a cylinder formed in a rod 24. The rod 24 is the piston rod of the piston and cylinder device which drives the wipers 10. Thus the wiper-trimmer device may be advanced relative to the wipers 10 as the wipers 10 are themselves advancing and closing. During this advance the wiper member 42 is supported on ledges 56 formed in the wipers 10.
