Abstract

1,249,807. Floating barriers. B. MIDBY. 12 May, 1969 [10 May, 1968], No. 24098/69. Heading E1H. A buoyantfence to control floating, impurities comprises at least one elongate portion 1 of flexible sheet-material e.g. cloth or plastics covered fabric, which is folded at 2, 5, 6 and joined at 9a, 9b to form pockets 10 for relatively-rigid float-elements 19 such as pieces of cork or cellular plastics-material, and granular ballast 20 e.g. sand or metal balls. A flap 8 is secured by seams 12; and a seam 13 joins the folded material between adjacent pockets. Each end 18 of the material is folded and perforated to facilitateconnection to an adjacent end by lacing (as shown), buttons or screws. The fence may form a ring around the floating impurities. The pockets may have a convergent-divergent shape. Fig. 6: (not shown), to prevent the ballast (32) e.g. stones or granular material in bags, being displaced upwardly.
