Abstract

1,249,730. Copolyamide filaments. TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc. 14 Nov., 1969, No. 55990/69. Heading B5B. [Also in Division C3] Filaments are melt spun from a ternary copolyamide of hexamethylene adipamide (66), hexamethylene terephthalamide (6T) and hexamethylene isophthalamide (6I) having a composition within area ABCD of the figure, and are drawn at least 2 x (e.g. 2À5-7Î) at 60-200‹ C. to give filaments having a shrinkage of at least 15% (e.g. 15-40%) on boiling in water for 30 min. in the relaxed state and an initial Young's modulus of at least 30 gpd. (e.g. 30-60 gpd.) subsequent to said boiling. The filaments may be heat set at 150-220‹ C. either relaxed or under tension, a controlled degree of shrinkage optionally being allowed.
