Abstract
1,249,679. Dioctyl tin salts of dicarboxylic acids. M & T INTERNATIONAL N.V. 31 Dec., 1968 [2 Jan., 1968], No. 61992/68. Heading C2J. Free flowing dioctyl tin salts of dicarboxylic acids, characterized by an off-white to cream colour, a superficially crystalline structure and the presence of orthorhombic prism or hexagonal prism crystal structure, are claimed per se. They are prepared by reacting substantially stoichiometric amounts of dioctyltin oxide and a dicarboxylic acid or anhydride in the presence of an inert aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent, being such a solvent from which the dioctyltindicarboxylate may be crystallized on cooling. The solvent may have 5-16 preferably 6-8 carbon atoms and in preferably straight chained, and has a boiling point less than 150 C., and may be an 180 paraffinic hydrocarbon. The most preferred solvent is heptane. The reaction is carried out under reflux at between 60 and 130 C., and then cooled to 15-40 C. whence the product may be recovered. The ratio of solvent to product is maintained between 0À55 : 1 and 2:1. Maleic acid or maleic anhydride are the preferred reagents. The compounds di-n-octyl tin maleate, di-n-octyl tin adipate and di-n-octyl tin succinate are claimed per se.
