1,249,643. Proline derivatives. RAVIZZA S.A. 6 Aug., 1969 [8 Aug., 1968], No. 38021/68. Heading C2C. Novel compounds (I) and their salts (in which R is H or 1-3C alkyl; R 1 is H, acyl, alkoxycarbonyl or aralkoxycarbonyl; R 2 is H, 1-3C alkyl, benzyl, phenyl, OH or COOH; R 3 is H, OH or phenyl, provided that it is OH only if R 2 is alkyl or phenyl and phenyl only if R 2 is COOH; R 4 is H, 1-3C alkyl, COOH or alkoxycarbonyl, provided that R 2 and R 3 are other than H only if R 4 is H) are prepared by reaction between compounds (II) and (III) (in which R 5 is 1-3C alkyl and R 6 is as R 2 but not H) followed by hydrogenation of the pyrroline derivative produced and optionally hydrolysis to split off one or both of R 5 and R 6 and/or by conventional modification to insert different R 5 or R 6 radicals. Intermediates isolated are the pyrroline derivatives mentioned above. Pharmaceutical compositions contain a compound (I), are administered orally, rectally or parenterally and have anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic properties.
