1,249,532. Rolling diaphragm gas spring combined with damper. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. 31 Oct., 1969 [2 Nov., 1968], No. 53519/69. Heading F2S. The invention provides a way of attaching the rolling diaphragm of a gas spring at one end to the tubular housing 2 of the spring and at the other end to the outer tube 4 of an associated damper. The ends of the compressible sleeve which forms the diaphragm and the associated tube wall ends are pushed into one another in concentrically overlapping manner, and a support part 3, 5 is either applied to the exposed side of the compressible sleeve in the overlap region, or embedded in the sleeve (Figs. 7, 8, not shown). Then the pack of layers formed from the tube wall, the compressible sleeve and optionally the support part is deformed in the radial direction by radial widening from the interior outwards. Windows (19, Fig. 4, not shown) may be cut in the support part to facilitate deformation.
