Abstract
1,249,005. Peeling fruit. W. J. POISSON. 9 July, 1969 [12 July, 1968; 22 July, 1968; 26 July, 1968], No. 34511/69. Headings A2B and A2E. [Also in Division A4] A method of peeling fruit, such as oranges, comprises the steps of cutting at least one circumferential groove in the peel, and of covering the circumferential groove with a strip of removable material. The peel may be loosened prior to covering the groove which may be formed by the removal of a strip of peel and may be of any required width. The strip may seal the groove hermetically. A device for carrying out the method consists of a first curved part 12 and a second curved part 14. A lip 16 is pressed out of part 12 forming an aperture (18) Fig. 2, (not shown). An orange is held against the concave surface of part 12 and rotated so that a circumferential strip of peel is cut by lip 16 and passes through aperture (18). The second curved part 14 may be inserted under the peel to loosen same. Other peeling devices described consist of a flat body Figs. 3 and 4, (not shown) in which a cutting lip (24) extends at right angles to the body, and a curved body Figs. 5 and 6, (not shown), in which the cutting tip is similarly formed.
