Abstract

1,248,872. Bursting discs. BLACK, SIVALLS & BRYSON Inc. Feb.27, 1970, No.9749/70. Heading F1P. A reverse buckling rupture disc 24, Fig.1 has a central concave-convex position 36 extending into an annular support ring 20 secured to the neck 28 of a pressure vessel 12 and has a flat flange portion 38 by which the disc is clamped between ring 20 and a further ring 22 by bolts 30 passing through a neck flange 14 and a further flange 16. When buckled by excess pressure acting as the convex surface the disc is ruptured by a shear assembly 26. The underside of disc flange 38 is in abutment with an annulet portion 42 of the support ring 20 and the face of annulet 42 adjacent the lower face of flange 38 may have an inverted U-shaped section or it may be flat and horizontal or it may be flat and inclined towards the convex surface of the disc. In a further modification a support ring 44a Fig. 5 or a dished disc shown by a broken line is clamped between the disc flange 38 and the support 22. In all embodiments the inner edges 39, 40 of rings 20, 22 are rounded.
