Abstract

1,248,658. Screw conveyers. MO OCH DOMSJO A.B. 5 June, 1969 [5 June, 1968], No. 28620/69. Heading B8A. [Also in Division B2] A system for comminuting cellulose comprises a pulp shredder e.g. a hammer, cutter, or roller mill 1, Fig. 1, a conveyer to an accumulator vessel 6, which has a through-flow cross-sectional area increasing from its upper inlet to its lower outlet, a conveyer to a disintegrator 11 and a feedback conveyer between the input and output of the accumulator. Thus a constant flow or material can be produced from the disintegrator to a diaper- or napkin-making machine which will manufacture products of consistent absorbency. Sheet pulp comminution at 1 into 2 cm. pieces is supplied to the vessel 6 by screw conveyers 4, 5 and distributed by a screw conveyer 8 which has through apertures 9a . . . 9c, Fig. 2, to screw conveyers 10a ... 10c and thence to a battery 11a . . . 11c of disintegrators. Variations in pulp level at 6 are monitored by e.g. an ultrasonic device 7 or otherwise electrically, optically or mechanically to control the operation of pulp feed rollers 2 . In an alternative embodiments conveyers 4 and 8 may be arranged to slope upwardly to intersect, thus eliminating the vertical conveyer 5: and conveyers 10a . . . 10c may have double worn threads or a tapering discharge end to counteract the tendency to pulsating feed.
