Abstract

1,248,463. Recovering cyclopentene. ERDOLCHEMIE G.m.b.H. 1 Oct., 1968 [17 Oct., 1967], No. 46495/68. Heading C5E. Cyclopentene is recovered from diene-containing hydrocarbon mixtures containing inter alia cyclopentene and cyclopentadiene, e.g. pyrolysis petrol, by selective hydrogenation of the diolefins to yield a mixture containing less than 5 wt. per cent dienes, followed by distillation. Suitable hydrogenation catalysts include nickel, noble metals, and chromium oxide with a Group I-IV metal. Multi-stage fractionation is used to recover cyclopentene, several different arrangements being mentioned.
