Abstract

1,248,023. Gas-cutting. CANADIAN WESTINGHOUSE CO. Ltd. 17 April, 1970 [3 July, 1969], No. 18396/70. Heading B3V. [Also in Divisions G1 and G3] A pattern - controlled cutting - machine is steered by a friction drive-wheel in response to the output of photo-optical tracing head. As shown, Fig. 4, a pair of beams 17, 18 are hinged at a point 19 and rotatable about a shaft 20. The arm 18 is U-shaped and comprises an upper portion 21 supporting an electro-optical pattern-following device 22. A lower portion 23 of the arm supports a cutting torch 24 above a bed 26 carrying a sheet 27 of material to be cut. The pattern-following device 22, Fig. 5, comprises a frame 35 carrying in bearings 37, 38 a hollow shaft 36 which is rotated, through gearing 32, 33, by a travel motor 34. Within the shaft 36 is supported a shaft 47 carrying an angled shaft 30 on which is fixed a steering wheel 29 and a drive wheel 31 frictionally engaging a face of the gear 32. The shaft 47 is rotated, to steer the wheel 29, by a motor 54. The position of a line on a pattern to be followed is sensed by photo-cells 41, 42, transversely adjustable by a threaded shaft 44. The connections to the photo-cells and a lamp, not shown, are taken through the shaft 47 to sliprings 48-50.
