Abstract

124,798. Mackie, T. D. April 5, 1916. Hydrogen.-In a plant for making hydrogen by the alternate reduction of iron oxide by water gas and oxidation by steam, a water-gas generator A is arranged centrally with respect to an annular cast-iron chamber B containing iron ore or oxide. The waste gases from the generator A circulate through flues E around the chamber B and round heat regenerators C and a steam-superheater D. The generator A is provided with a valve F for admission of coke or other fuel, a valve G for passage of water-gas to a purifier and gas-holder, and a valve H for passage of waste gases to the flues E. The chamber B has valves I, J for passage of water-gas and steam and gas-outlet passages K. The flues E have air supplies to burn any combustible gas which passes into them.
