Abstract

1,247,924. Selective printing. TELETYPE CORP. 27 Nov., 1968 [7 Dec., 1967], No. 56220/68. Heading B6F. [Also in Division B2] The formation of uniform droplets in an electrostatic printer of the kind employing a writing jet is aided by the provision of a zero or weak accelerating force in the region of droplet formation. A jet of ink formed by a nozzle 10 is accelerated by an accelerating electrode 13, a second electrode 14 being provided and held at the same potential as or slightly higher potential than the electrode 13, so that the accelerating forces acting on the jet between the electrodes are weak. The electrodes are placed at the point where droplet formation takes place. A charged platen 12 accelerates the droplets after formation. Deflecting electrodes 17, 18 are provided. The ink is charged in the nozzle 10. An oscillating potential may be applied to the nozzle and electrodes to assist droplet formation, or the nozzle may be vibrated piezo-electrically.
