Abstract
1,247,638. Cobalt electrode. VARTA A.G. 20 April, 1970 [22 April, 1969], No. 18802/70. Heading H1B. A negative cobalt electrode for alkaline accumulators, particularly those with a positive nickel electrode, consists of a sintered nickel skeleton which in the discharged condition contains as the active material cobalt hydroxide and up to 50% by weight of cadmium hydroxide based on the total amount of hydroxides present. The active material may be introduced by impregnating the skeleton with cobalt nitrate and cadmium nitrate solutions either as a mixture of alternately followed by precipitation with NaOH. The active material may also be deposited electrolytically or by thermal decomposition of the impregnating salts.
