Abstract
1,247,469. Electromechanical delay lines. THOMSON-CSF. 26 June, 1970 [26 June, 1969], No. 31228/70. Heading H3U. A dispersive-type delay line system employing acoustic surface waves comprises a substrate 1 of circular cross-section having on its upper surface a thin film 2 of a material through which elastic shear waves may be propagated. Two separate delay lines are formed by respective pairs of electrostrictive transducers 3, 4 and 13, 14 having electrodes 5, 6 and 15, 16 respectively. The transducers are all mounted on the film 2 which serves as the other, common, electrode. To minimize interference between the two delay lines the intervening sectorshaped surfaces 10 of the film 2 may be grooved or, alternatively, the surfaces maybe covered with vibration absorbent material. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), three separate delay lines are formed by six transducers angularly spaced at 60 degrees around the substrate 1. A method of manufacture is described with reference to Figs. 4-8 (not shown).
