[Also in Division C2] A herbicidal composition contains as active ingredient a novel 1,3,4-thiadiazoline-5- (thi) onyl- (thio) urea of the general formula: where R is hydrogen, or a (C 1 -C 13 ) alkyl radical (which may be substituted by alkoxy), a (C 3 -C 12 ) cycloalkyl radical (which may be olefinically unsaturated, may contain fused rings and may be substituted by halogen and/or (C 1 -C 4 ) alkyl), a furfuryl radical, an aralkyl radical having (C 1 C 4 ) alkyl and from 1 to 3 aryl radicals as substituents, or an aryl radical, (the aryl of the two last-mentioned radicals optionally being substituted by (C 1 -C 4 ) alkyl, (C 1 -C 4 ) alkoxy, halogen, cyano, nitro, trifluoromethyl and/or dialkylamine groups having 1 to 4 carbon atoms in each alkyl radical); R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen, (C 1 -C 4 ) alkyl, C 2 -C 4 alkenyl, alkoxyalkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms in each of the alkyl and alkoxy radicals; R" is hydrogen or a (C 1 -C 3 ) aliphatic hydrocarbon radical; R"' is a (C 1 -C 6 ) aliphatic hydrocarbon radical or a (C 1 -C 4 ) alkoxy radical; and X and Y are oxygen or sulphur atoms, X being different to Y, in admixture with a liquid or solid diluent or carrier, optionally containing a surface-active agent.
